This project in Guildford involved the creation of a bespoke underground tunnel, designed to connect the main house to a newly constructed outdoor swimming pool. The brief required a solution that was both highly practical and visually striking, while overcoming the challenges of a restricted site.

Access to the property was via a narrow single-lane country road, which required careful planning and coordination throughout the build. Despite these constraints, we successfully managed all enabling works, including piling, excavation and waterproofing, as well as the full dig-out for the swimming pool.

The tunnel itself was designed as a considered extension of the home, rather than a purely functional space. A bespoke joinery installation for wine storage was incorporated within the tunnel, creating a feature element and adding character to what could otherwise have been a transitional area. A custom staircase with integrated lighting leads down into the space, enhancing both the atmosphere and usability

Externally, the tunnel is defined by a striking glazed structure, allowing natural light to filter down into the space below and creating a strong architectural feature within the garden. This not only improves the experience of the tunnel but also connects the underground space to the surrounding landscape.

The completed project delivers a unique and highly tailored solution, combining structural complexity with carefully considered design to create a seamless link between house and pool.
